German Cemetery: Final Resting Place of Many
Socialist Cemetery, Friedrichsfelde
Berlin, Germany
Opened in 1881, the Friedrichsfelde Central Cemetery, also known as the Socialist Cemetery, is a cemetery located in the borough of Friedrichsfelde in Berlin, Germany. The cemetery is the final resting place of many famous socialists, communists, and other political figures, as well as artists, writers, and intellectuals.
The cemetery was originally established as a pauper's cemetery, but it was later expanded to include a section for socialists and other political dissidents. In the early 20th century, the cemetery became a popular burial ground for members of the German Communist Party. After World War II, the cemetery was designated as a national memorial, and it is now considered one of the most important cultural and historical sites in Berlin.
